Deliverables

BRIEF:
For this project, the brief was to create a design of any kind that would appear on a section of a mural, the only restriction being that the color pallet had to use warm rich tones. The mural would then be printed and put up in the Digital Arts department of my school.

HOW I MADE IT:
I began this project with a strong visual idea, featuring a vintage tv being abducted by a UFO in a dark isolated corner. I wanted this image to represent the way that modern technology abducts our mind from the real world, and distracts us from what really matters. To start I grabbed a few assets; the first being a wood texture that I would use for the background, the second being a UFO and the third being a reference for an old vintage tv. I then composed the assets round my canvas, before using simple privative shapes to trace the old vintage tv. After the framework for the piece was done, I began using exposure masks to create highlights and shadows for everything. Doing this really added some depth to the scene, making it feel more tangible. Next up, I compiled a bunch of different wood textures from google images all with slightly different colors and grains, and began masking them to the shapes I traced earlier. This part was especially satisfying.

To finish the piece, I used a simple triangle shape that I colored orange and then lowered the opacity of, before adding some glow and gaussian blur to make the abduction beam. Finally, I used a Camera Raw filter to boost the saturation and clarity of the design to make it pop.
I also want to add that this description is a brief summary of the project and not a detailed step by step tutorial, as there were a lot of extra things I did throughout the project that I can’t cover without making this description thousands of words long.
