Process

BRIEF:
My role in this project was to create a promotional poster for a concept horror game called “Pendulum Descent”. It is a single player adventure game, inspired by games like Poppy Playtime, that takes you on a journey through an old mansion to find an ancient grandfather clock.
HOW I MADE IT:
The idea for this poster was to have the grandfather clock from the game at the end of a creepy, dark hallway. This hallway would feature strong leading lines that would draw the viewer in and make the clock feel inescapable. With the idea set, I started by using Adobe Firefly to generate an image of the hallway, before grabbing the rest of the assets from google images. I then began laying the assets into the center of the hallway, combining different images of grandfather clocks to create one that looked menacing and featured a pendulum to match the game title. After that I used some hue and saturation masks along with exposure masks to blend all of the assets together, before cutting out
the light in the background and placing it infront of the clock. Doing this helps a lot in creating the illusion that all of these assets are one image.
Moving onto the typography, I found a formal font from DaFont, that I edited the kerning of to give each letter a more isolated creepy feel. I then used some drop shadow to make the text pop, before using a Camera Raw filter along with some glow and blur to polish the final image off.
I also want to add that this description is a brief summary of the project and not a detailed step by step tutorial, as there were a lot of extra things I did throughout the project that I can’t cover without making this description thousands of words long.
