Deliverables

BRIEF:
For this project, the brief was to create a detailed and textured 3D model of a robot. The goal being to get used to 3D creative workflow, from idea to final model.

HOW I MADE IT:
To start this project I began mood boarding other existing robots, noting down elements like size, proportion, mode of transport and overall aesthetic. Doing this helped me a lot when drawing inspiration and creating an idea that’s unique. After mood boarding I got straight into modelling without a clear idea of my robot yet, making sure that I had my mood board open while I was creating. I began the modeling process using simple privatives, to layout simple silhouette for the robot, before using extrusions and bevel to start adding details. Another thing that helped when adding detail, especially on an industrial robot, was creating vents. I could then place these vents anywhere that seemed visually boring to simulate realism for how the robot actually worked and also cover blank space.

Once the model was finished, I moved into Adobe Substance painter using black masks to paint different textures onto specific 3D faces. I then exported the textures before using SketchFab to put everything together, add some post processing and allow you to view the model in 3D yourself.
I also want to add that this description is a brief summary of the project and not a detailed step by step tutorial, as there were a lot of extra things I did throughout the project that I can’t cover without making this description thousands of words long.
